Review
Genshin Impact is a free-to-play open-world action RPG from miHoYo (now rebranded as HoYoverse), combining beautiful exploration, character-driven stories, and layered combat mechanics in one polished package. You begin as a Traveler, searching for your lost sibling, and gradually unlock a diverse cast of characters, each with unique elemental powers.
The world of Teyvat is expansive and richly detailed, with varied biomes, hidden treasures, puzzles, and scenic vistas that invite exploration. Climbing, gliding, swimming, and teleportation points all make traversing the environment fun and dynamic. As you progress, new regions open up, each with distinct lore, challenges, and aesthetics.
Combat in Genshin Impact is both accessible and deep. You control up to four characters in your party and switch among them on the fly to create elemental combinations. Using these synergies—like combining fire and wind for a swirling flame tornado—is core to mastering tougher enemies and bosses. Over time, characters level up, acquire better weapons and artifacts, and unlock powerful constellations and talents.
The game also features multiplayer co-op, where up to four players can team up to explore domains, fight bosses, or complete events. However, key story quests remain solo-only. The gacha system (“wishes”) governs how you obtain new characters and weapons, making luck and resource management central to long-term progression.
On the plus side, Genshin Impact is highly polished: the visuals feel console-level, the soundtrack is majestic, and updates consistently bring new content. That said, the monetization model can feel restrictive; for free players, advancement can be slow unless you’re strategic with resources. The “resin” system (which limits how much high-reward content you can do daily) and occasional balancing issues draw criticism.
In all, Genshin Impact is a standout among mobile action RPGs. It blends a massive world, engaging characters, and strategic combat into an experience that rivals console titles. If you enjoy exploration, fantasy, and character collection — and don’t mind gacha systems — it’s well worth trying.
